What public traveller reports say
Summarized in our own words from public sources we read (October 2026). Each point is one or a few travellers' experience, not a statistic.
positive
Several travellers praised BA's GF meals on long-haul flights (for example London to Miami) and said crew took dietary needs seriously.
negative
One traveller ended up with no meal after BA/American cancelled and rebooked their return.
mixed
A commenter noted BA caters most short-haul flights in London but not at smaller outstations, and short-haul is buy-on-board with few GF items.
How to request a gluten-free meal (GFML)
- Add the special meal GFML (gluten-free meal) when you book, under "special meals" or "dietary requests" on British Airways's website or app. If you cannot find it, contact the airline.
- Most airlines need the request at least 24-48 hours before departure; check British Airways's current deadline on its official site.
- About 48 hours before, check that the meal is still on your booking. Seat changes, rebookings and delays can drop it silently.
- Confirm again at check-in and at the gate, and greet the crew when you board: "I'm the gluten-free meal in seat 12A."
- On a codeshare, the operating airline provides the meal. Read labels and skip anything unlabelled (rolls and desserts are common slip-ups).
- Pack enough safe food for the whole journey in case the meal is missing or unsafe.
