Always confirm with the cruise line before booking and again on board. Policies, ships and menus change. Reports below are individual experiences, not guarantees and not medical advice.
How to request gluten-free on MSC Cruises
From MSC Cruises's official information (read October 2026):
- MSC asks you to declare allergies or intolerances on its Accessibility & Medical Request form at booking and no later than 30 days before sailing.
- On boarding, report your diet to Reception (Guest Service) and to the maître d'hôtel in the main dining room before eating or drinking anything.
- MSC offers dedicated gluten-free menus in the main restaurants on most ships (its UK site cites a Bureau Veritas certification for gluten-free menus, food code 20 ppm). On MSC Armonia, Sinfonia, Opera and Lirica, only pre-packaged GF snacks are offered. MSC says it cannot guarantee no cross-contamination at the buffet.

General steps that apply on every line:
- Declare celiac disease (not just a preference) when you book and on any special-needs or dietary form.
- Ask for traditional/fixed dining so you keep the same waiter all week, if the line offers it.
- On day one, meet the maître d' or head waiter and pre-order the next day's meals.
- Be careful at the buffet: shared utensils and self-service make cross-contact more likely. Ask staff to serve you from the kitchen.
- Plan port days and shore excursions with food separately.
What public traveller reports say
Summarized in our own words from public sources we read (October 2026). Each point is one or a few travellers' experience, not a statistic.
negative
A celiac traveller was served a regular flour tortilla in an order mix-up and felt staff did not understand celiac disease; others in the thread said they kept being served gluten despite emailing months ahead, or ended up living on fries and oranges.
positive
A parent said MSC gave their celiac daughter as many menu options as everyone else, with a dedicated kitchen and an enthusiastic dedicated waiter.
positive
One commenter said that after filling in the special-needs form you get a dedicated waiter and a gluten-free menu, with separate prep in the main dining rooms but not in specialty restaurants.
positive
A traveller on MSC Meraviglia found the main dining room great, with the head waiter taking orders; the only annoyance was roaming bread trays being offered until staff recognised them.
negative
A celiac who has sailed both Royal Caribbean and MSC would not recommend MSC.
